This is one of the oldest universities in the World. Originally called Universidad Complutense (founded in 1293), but was changed in the past century to the Universidad de Alcala. The university is spread through out the city, but the main campus is photographed above. The buildings are beautiful and are in surprisingly fantastic condition for their age! It would be a great school to study abroad at! One of the university’s most prevalent majors is Spanish.. So if you want to study Spanish this is the place to go!!

A very beautiful plaza dedicated to the famous Spanish writer Cervantes. The plaza is elegantly decorated with roses and other flowers. Located at the center of the plaza is a statue of Cervantes. At the end of the plaza there is a large gazebo and the Universidad de Alcala. The plaza is a lovely place to relax and chill out in the gorgeous Spanish sun!!

The home and museum of Miguel de Cervantes. Cervantes was a popular novelist, poet, and playwright from the 16th century. His famous work, Don Quixote, is considered to be the first modern European Novel. He has had a monumental influence on the Spanish language, and even has a Spanish holiday dedicated to him on the 8th of October! You can visit his house and look around. It’s pretty cool and gives you an idea of what medieval life was like.

Ayuntamiento is the Spanish Equivalent of a Town Hall. The city of Alcala de Henares (Translating to Citadel on the River Henares) has remained essentially medieval through out the years. Alcala was once a Roman city, but was overtaken by the Moors in the 17th century. It is a very beautiful city with slim cobble stone roads and Roman, Moorish, and medieval buildings scattered through out the city center. The city is also home to one of the worlds oldest Universities, called Universidad Complutense (Now the Universidad de Alcala). The famous writer Miguel de Cervantes was also born and raised in Alcala!
